Prepare for your learner’s permit test AND stay on the right side of the law with our special free Virginia Fines and Limits permit practice test. It’s up to date as of December 2024. Unlike other practice tests, this test is not primarily about the rules of the road but about the legal consequences of violating those rules. The practice test is up to date as of December 2024 and is based on Virginia’s official driver’s manual (Virginia DMV Handbook (VA Driver's Manual) 2024) and the Code of Virginia.

From the questions and answers on this practice test, you’ll learn the fines for texting while driving, driving with an unrestrained child passenger, and using a fake ID to purchase alcohol when you’re under 21. (You should memorize these fines for your knowledge exam.) You’ll learn the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limits for drivers under 21 and drivers 21 years old or older. You’ll learn about some offenses that can cause loss of driving privileges (and one that won’t). You’ll learn the length of license suspension following an arrest for DUI or a refusal to take a breath test, for a first or subsequent offense. You’ll also learn the duration of vehicle impoundment for driving when your license is suspended or revoked.

As with the other Virginia practice tests we offer, each of the 50 questions and answers on this Fines and Limits permit test comes with an optional hint and a helpful explanation of the correct answer, courtesy of our automated assistant.

Our other Virginia permit practice tests help you learn how to drive. This Virginia Fines and Limits Permit Practice test will help you stay out of trouble long after you’ve earned your driver’s license.
